Benjamin Franklin and Benjamin Rush create America's first abolition society: the Society for the Relief of Free Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage, founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Usually referred to as the Pennsylvania Abolition (or Abolitionist) Society, it's based heavily on Quaker beliefs and becomes a model for abolitionist groups elsewhere in America.
