The first Moravians from Europe arrive in America. Invited by colonial governor James Oglethorpe, ten males of the "Unitas Fratrum" landed in Savannah, Georgia after sailing from England in February.

This first Moravian community in America won't last very long, though. For one thing there is too much disagreement among the members. Secondly, they come under a lot of pressure from government to serve in local militias to defend Savannah against Spanish raiders coming out of Florida. Later Moravian colonization attempts in Pennsylvania will prove far more successful.
