Pope Clement XII is born. He will spend much of his reign dealing with scandals involving the Jesuits and attempts by progressive political forces to reduce the power of the Catholic Church.

His predecessors have had some success in suppressing dissenting voices, but Pope Clement XIII won't do very well at all. By the end of his reign, the Jesuits are completely banned from Portugal, Spain, and France, all reliably Catholic nations.
