The foundation stone of the new St. Peter's Basilica is laid under the leadership of Pope Julius II. The church will not be completed until 1626.

When he was first elected pope, the condition of St. Peter's was deplorable. Pope Julius II is now investing a great deal into expanding and modernizing the central church of Christendom.

His goal was to create something that would inspire awe and amazement in all who visited.
