Girolamo Savonarola is arrested after a crowd attacks the Convent of San Marco where he is staying and several of his supporters are killed.

Savonarola surrenders voluntarily at which point he is formally charged with heresy, making false prophecies, political sedition, and other crimes.

Girolamo Savonarola is tortured for several weeks to make him confess to all his crimes; his right arm is spared, however, to make it easier for him to sign is eventual confession.
