Pope Gregory IX issues the papal bull Etsi Judæorum. Addressed to prelates in France, Pope Gregory IX insists that attacks on Jews, which are usually motivated more by greed than piety, be stopped and that Jews receive the same treatment from Christians as Christians receive in non-Christian lands.
