Pope Leo IX dies in Rome. A German aristocrat, Pope Leo IX will be seen as one of the most important German popes in the history of the Catholic church. Although elected in Worms, Germany, Leo IX only accepts the papacy after being canonically elected by clergy in Rome.

He works for major ecclesiastical reforms, including especially clerical celibacy which suggests that it's a seriously problem. Pope Leo IX also spends a lot of time in Germany, traveling to synods and spending time with German rulers like Henry III.
